The ASUS ROG Strix G18 (2024) is a high-performance laptop with a premium price, designed for intense gaming and demanding tasks. It has a large 18-inch IPS display with high brightness and color coverage, perfect for both work and play, but this also makes it less portable due to its size and weight of over 6 pounds. The powerful Intel i9 processor and Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics make it excellent for 3D rendering, machine learning, and engineering software. With 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, multitasking and large projects are handled with ease. It boasts an extensive array of ports including USB-C and Thunderbolt 4, though its battery life is limited, making frequent access to a power source necessary. The backlit keyboard and build quality are exceptional, but if you value portability and longer battery life, you may want to consider other options. Give Feedback

Engineering & Design:
4.8
The ASUS ROG Strix G18 (2024) is excellent for engineering and design because it features a robust Intel i9 processor and 32GB of RAM for demanding computational tasks, plus a high-performance Nvidia RTX GPU for graphics-intensive work. The laptop's large, high-resolution IPS display offers precise color accuracy which is crucial for design work, although its size and weight lean towards less portability.
Gaming, 3D & AI:
4.7
PerfectRec’s Gaming and 3D Score strongly emphasizes graphics processing capability as well as general performance, while also taking into account other factors that impact suitability for gaming and 3D work. While performance (especially graphics performance) is the most important factor determining this score, we also give modest weight to screen quality, heat management, keyboard quality, and storage.
General Use:
4.6
The ASUS ROG Strix G18 is excellent for general use as it has a powerful CPU and ample RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and high processing capabilities, along with a high-quality screen delivering sharp, vibrant images. However, its portability is compromised due to its weight and size, and the battery life is average, so it may not be ideal for those needing to use their laptop on the go for extended periods without charging.
General Use Screen Quality:
4.6
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.
Keyboard Quality:
4.4
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.
Build Quality:
4.3
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Battery Life:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.

NotebookCheck

Florian Glaser | March 2023
"With the ROG Strix G18, Asus has made an almost consistently good debut in the still quite new 18-inch laptop segment. The base unit case shows a few signs of weakness in the area of stability and is something which has an effect on the perceived quality of the input devices (the chassis tends to rattle a bit). Nevertheless, thanks to generous port features (incl. Thunderbolt 4), a striking design, and extensive lighting (keyboard, LED strip on the front), gamers get a fitting gaming platform."
