The Dell Inspiron 15 3525 is a budget-friendly laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and Vega 7 graphics. It features a 15.6-inch touchscreen IPS display with full HD resolution. The battery capacity allows for moderate use before needing a recharge, though it's not the longest-lasting on the market. Storage is ample for general use, and the RAM is sufficient for everyday tasks but may be limiting for more intensive engineering software. The device is somewhat portable, balancing size and battery life. It comes equipped with multiple USB ports, including USB-C, an HDMI output, but lacks Thunderbolt connectivity. The keyboard includes a number pad and is backlit for ease of use in dim conditions. Keep in mind, while suitable for general use and some light gaming, it may not perform optimally for heavy 3D rendering, machine learning tasks, or intensive engineering applications. Give Feedback

Ratings by Category

Portability:
4.3
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
Operating Noise:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Content Creation:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Content Creation Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Battery Life:
4.1
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
General Use:
4.0
The Dell Inspiron 15 3525 packs a decent CPU and sufficient RAM that can handle everyday tasks, making it suitable for general use. However, while its screen offers satisfactory brightness and pixel density for typical usage, it may not impress those seeking high-quality visuals for professional photo or video editing due to modest color coverage and contrast.
Software Development:
3.9
PerfectRec’s Software Development Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software development. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Keyboard Quality:
3.5
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.
Engineering & Design:
3.4
The Dell Inspiron 15 3525 has a capable AMD Ryzen 5 CPU and integrated Vega 7 GPU which are sufficient for engineering and design tasks, but its midrange power might struggle with more intensive computational workloads or complex 3D rendering. While the 15.6 inch IPS screen provides decent color accuracy and resolution for design work, professionals may find the screen brightness and color space coverage lacking for high-fidelity visual tasks.
General Use Screen Quality:
3.4
The general use screen score is based on the screen technology, contrast ratio, resolution, brightness, color gamut and color accuracy. This score does not take into account specialized display features for specific use cases, such as high refresh rate for gaming.
Build Quality:
3.3
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, chassis rigidity, and overall reliability. Our assessment of build quality includes many details that are difficult to quantify. Our laptop experts use their best judgment to produce the final score.
Gaming & AI:
3.1
The Dell Inspiron 15 3525 provides a fair gaming and 3D experience, mainly limited by its integrated GPU which doesn't match dedicated gaming GPUs in performance, and a standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz rather than the higher rates preferred for smoother visuals in fast-paced games.

PCMag

Mark Knapp | January 2023
"Dell's Inspiron 15 (3525) is a peppy-enough and affordable-enough home or remote work machine, but it's not very ambitious; it does little to go beyond the basics. More the concern: It’s readily overshadowed by a number of machines that outperform and outclass it. Even if the Inspiron can get the job done today, its competition has the mettle to keep doing the job tomorrow in a way the Inspiron simply can’t promise. Many of its slightly higher-end rivals have to be on sale (and frequently are) to match it on price, but the Inspiron 15 (3525) is outclassed even by some similarly priced options, making it a difficult recommendation."
