The HP Stream 14" is a budget-friendly option designed for general use, featuring an Intel Celeron N4120 processor and Intel UHD Graphics 600, suitable for basic tasks but not for intensive 3D rendering, machine learning, or engineering work. It has a 14-inch TN display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, which delivers a fair image quality but the screen may not be as vibrant or sharp compared to more advanced displays. The laptop includes 16 GB of RAM and a 320 GB storage capacity, which are moderate specifications for everyday tasks and light multitasking. It is lightweight at 3.5 pounds, enhancing its portability, and offers a decent battery life for typical usage. The keyboard is rated as very good and it comes with a good webcam and speakers. Although it has USB-C ports, it lacks more advanced connectivity options like Thunderbolt ports. Overall, the HP Stream 14" is a simple, portable laptop well-suited for basic use such as web browsing, document editing, and light multimedia consumption, but not for demanding software or gaming. Ratings by Category

Operating Noise:
4.6
PerfectRec’s Operating Noise Score is based on fan noise measurements. Laptops with a fanless design, such as Macbooks, receive the maximum score.
Portability:
4.5
PerfectRec’s portability rating takes into account the volume and thickness of the laptop as well as its weight.
Battery Life:
4.2
PerfectRec’s Battery Life rating is based on hours of battery life in typical usage scenarios.
General Use:
3.8
The HP Stream 14" is rated fair for general use primarily because of its middling CPU performance and screen quality, with an Intel Celeron N4120 processor and a TN panel at a lower resolution, which are sufficient for basic tasks but not ideal for more demanding applications or sharp visuals. However, its light weight and decent battery life contribute positively to its usability and portability for everyday activities.
Gaming, 3D & AI:
3.0
The HP Stream 14" is not suitable for gaming and 3D applications because it has an entry-level Intel UHD Graphics 600 which lacks the power for such intensive tasks. Additionally, its screen has a basic TN panel with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and does not support high refresh rates, which can limit visual quality and smoothness in gaming and 3D rendering.
Engineering & Design:
3.0
PerfectRec’s Engineering and Design Score takes into account the many different features of the laptop that make it more or less suitable for software engineering, graphic design, photo editing, and video editing work. In addition to a strong emphasis on overall performance, this score also places very high importance on screen quality. Heat management, storage, keyboard and speaker quality are also incorporated, with fan noise rounding out this score.
Keyboard Quality:
3.0
The Keyboard Quality score is based on the PerfectRec experts’ assessment of tactile feedback, typing comfort, keyboard reliability and typing noise.

PCMag

Zachary Cuevas | November 2021
"With half of the main system memory and a fraction of the storage that we recommend in any budget Windows laptop, the HP Stream 14 does not impress. Perhaps it doesn't need to, depending on your reference point. For the price, you're getting a functional laptop with Windows 10, which already places the HP Stream 14 above most Chromebooks on that merit alone. Still, in this price range, you can't do much worse, but you can do better. In fact, for just $100 more, you can grab the much superior budget option, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14."
