What we like

  • The R646 is one of the cheapest TVs that uses miniLED FALD technology. This provides some of the brightest backlights at the respective price range, and it handles HDR highlights and bright rooms very well. The black levels are also very good for an LCD based TV.

  • The R646 is a very capable gaming TV with 120Hz, VRR, ALLM and some of the best response times for an LCD based TV.

  • TCL is one of the few manufacturers to support HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X bypass at the same time.

What we don't like

  • Gray uniformity and viewing angles are average at best. While this TV is good for gaming and movies, sport fans should consider other options first.

  • R646 color calibration out of the box is below average. It requires some settings tinkering to get the best out of it.

  • TCL implementation of Google TV might be buggy from time to time.
