Shopping for a laptop can be a bit of a pain. You’ll likely buy many over the course of your life, but modern laptops last long enough that by the time you need a new one a lot of the technology and features have changed. Remember DVD drives? They barely make those anymore.

So where does that leave you, the modern shopper? You could wander the aisles of the computer store, trying to decipher the jargon on the labels. You could go online and try to read through thousands of ads and product reviews.

These are all bad options. We decided to create a better one. Today we’re launching the PerfectRec laptop decision engine. Answer seven simple multiple choice questions, and our experts and data scientists will recommend the best three laptops for your unique needs. It’s that easy. In the time it took you to read this introduction, you could have had three personalized laptop recommendations.

How it works

Questions

You answer a series of simple, multiple choice questions. Everytime you answer a question, we update your recommendations in real time, eliminating the wrong laptops and honing in on the best options. At the end, you see the best laptop for you, with context to understand why we picked it.

Behind each pick is the expertise of a team of laptop experts and data scientists who comb through the details on all of the best models on the market. They collect and verify over five dozen data points for each one by hand. We don’t rely on scraping or blindly repeat manufacturer talking points.

Then our Machine Learning team uses AI tools to create the type of personalized recommendations and advice you’d get from a trusted (and extremely well-informed) friend.

What we ask about

We built our decision engine to work for everyone, not just tech enthusiasts. We ask you easy-to-understand questions like how you’ll use your laptop, how important battery life is, and whether or not you care about performance. Behind the scenes, we figure out what laptops will be a good fit for your needs and budget. If we think we can save you money, we’ll try to do it.

What you get

Laptop Rec Stack

We suggest up to three laptops for you to consider, and we explain our reasoning and show our work. If you’re someone who wants to browse more options or dig into the details before making a purchase, you can do that too. You can compare a table of laptop specs, see all the laptops we considered in making your recommendation, and find stores that have the laptop you want in stock.
