If you prioritize battery life and performance for engineering tasks, the ASUS Vivobook 15 with an Intel i3 processor and double the RAM of the Acer Aspire 1 may suit you better. On the other hand, the Acer Aspire 1, while not as powerful, is less expensive and offers a fanless design for silent operation. The VivoBook has a better screen with an IPS panel which generally provides better color and viewing angles than the TN panel on the Aspire 1, making it a better choice for tasks where screen quality is important. Both are portable, but the VivoBook is slightly lighter. Keep in mind that the Acer runs Windows 11 in S mode, which allows only apps from the Microsoft Store to be installed, while the ASUS runs the full version of Windows 11 Home, offering greater flexibility in software installation. CNET

Joshua Goldman | May 2020
"There are no surprises and nothing's extraordinary here but this laptop's price. For those in need of an inexpensive Windows laptop for undemanding tasks, though, the Acer Aspire 1 offers just enough to get the basics done and a larger screen to do them on."

NotebookCheck

Sascha Mölck, | April 2022
"The Asus VivoBook 15 is a quiet office notebook with a strong screen. However, the VivoBook 15 still has room for improvement. Office and internet applications as well as simple games do not pose any major challenges for the VivoBook - this is ensured by the built-in combination of Ryzen 7 5700U APU and 16 GB of RAM. Heat and noise emissions are acceptable. But, the laptop has weaknesses that should not be present at this level: lack of keyboard lighting, a slow memory card reader, no fast USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Battery runtimes can only be described as average."
