The HP 17" Laptop is slightly less expensive than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, offering more screen size with a 17.3-inch display compared to Lenovo's 15.6-inch. It also has more memory, which helps in multitasking and more demanding tasks. However, it's heavier, making it less convenient to carry around. The IdeaPad Slim 3 is lighter and offers better battery life, which is advantageous if you're on the go. The Lenovo model might be more suitable for general use given its portability and battery life, while the HP might be more suited for intensive tasks due to its larger memory and screen size. The HP 17" Laptop has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for general use, and engineering and design.
If you prioritize a crisp and bright display for activities like web browsing, video streaming, and document editing, both the HP and Lenovo offer fair screen quality, but they may lack the resolution and brightness desired for a premium viewing experience. For engineering and design tasks where accurate color representation is crucial, these laptops deliver fair performance, yet they don't cover a wide range of color gamuts, potentially making them less suitable for professional-grade color work. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates of these laptops' screens mean less fluid motion and responsiveness, which can hinder the immersive and competitive experience that gamers often seek.

How the HP 17" Laptop and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 compare to other laptops
"As far as starter laptops go, the HP Laptop 17 is a sound investment. Sure, it might not be the lightest of options, but what you get for the price is a well-rounded machine that fits multiple niches. Whether it be office duties that require you to multi-task between multiple programs, or study tasks in which you’ll spend hours browsing online, this laptop does it all. Plus, when it's time to unwind, you can watch your favorite shows or movies on a super-wide display. What's best of all is that you can do all this for about half a day on a single charge."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
